But I Dont Have Clips
Be that as it may, I Dont Have Clips When pitching to independent markets, you want to exhibit your ability. All things considered, your question is a resume of sorts, with you demonstrating to the opposite side that you have the stuff to compose for them. Be that as it may, imagine a scenario where you have not distributed at this point. My best proposal for this predicament is to compose for exchange magazines to gather those first clasps. Why? Since they are increasingly keen on you being a specialist in a subject than being an author. My first clasps came about not on the grounds that I was an essayist, but since of my encounters and instructive foundation. You have that equivalent chance. My absolute first clasp was an article in a collection about my Christmas separate. I never expressed I could compose or that Id never distributed. I just composed well and submitted. While it wasnt an exchange, it was a clasp. I could consider myself an essayist. Not long after, I pitched to a scene the board magazine, an exchange. My degree is in agronomy, so when a greens keeper went to the entryway of my recently built home, inquiring as to whether he could give me a gauge for some work, I said sure. Tragically, he began conversing with me as though I scarcely comprehended what soil was, talking in rudimentary terms. I let him continue forever until at long last I informed him regarding my degree and possibly he could now speak intensely about what he could offer me. That evening I pitched that piece and got an acknowledgment shortly. I had a clasp. I pitched an article about awards for authors to Writers Digest. Having as of late left a vocation with the national government, I comprehended where awards were and how to apply. They bought it, however reproduced it a few times, paying me each time. I moved not long after and again wound up putting grass down on another yard, just it was three sections of land and required a water system framework. I pitched TURF Magazine and did a profile on the organization that introduced my framework, offering the photos also. My most youthful child battled in school, making me dark headed with stress. So I did a piece on where an understudy could discover moral help on a school grounds for College Bound Teen. I pitched a piece to a womens business bulletin about battling the discriminatory limitation and bearing an EEO case. Could it be any more obvious? Venture once again from your life and note your experience. In that lies your first clasp. Its simpler than you might suspect. Just never let them know youve never distributed, and they can exclusively concentrate on the experience you do have.

The Greeks, with both their qualities and shortcomings, uncover the general character in Homers story.. The account of the Iliad happens in old Greece, Troy to be exact. Where a little fight has swelled into a war, over the Trojan catch of Helan, a Greek princess, from her home in Sparta. The Greeks fight back and before long set sail to assault Illion,or Troy, to get Helan back. We will compose a custom paper on The Greeks and The Illiad models explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now The Greeks contain epic attributes and characteristics in their lifestyle and living. An epic is a long account sonnet portrayal against the foundation of the past the chivalrous or otherworldly deeds of a saint who speaks to his race or his religion. Numerous Greeks have such issue in them, as like Achilles in the depiction, who was no minor human among his kin. Zeus once anticipated, Achilles is a man of extraordinary force and figured, he will kill the daring Hektor and carry respect to his people.(236) Achilles was a Greek, so forward he was to carry respect to his kin. There was a lot of utilization of epic qualities in the Iliad. The Iliad had gigantic fights that were battled continually between the two adversaries. Homer writes in depiction to Hektors battling, Hektor in the colossal pride of his quality furies powerfully, dependent on Zeus, and offers path to nobody neither god nor man(204). The characters battling for the Greeks or Trojans all were in the end given a powerful capacity to take on such mind boggling conflicts. The legend of the story, Achilles, contained superhuman quality past that of some other man. In portrayal of his quality, and the entryway banned to his room took three men to open it, yet Achilles himself alone could close it.(488) The mother of Achilles was Thetis making him half god, half man. That empowered him to have such powers past human man. Another epic trademark was that of the sacking of Ilion. In the start of the experience the Danaans set sail to assault the Trojans, yet Troy was encircled by an incredible divider. Despite the fact that the book doesn't portray the completion of Troy, it anticipates the fall of it to the Greeks. After the entirety of the battle against an incredible restricting power they still survived, and were successful at long last. At the point when Achilles murdered Hektor, that was another indication of epic, since he satisfied his deed as speaking to his race and his religion. He satisfied his race as demonstrating that Greeks overcome all, and he spoke to his religion in that he was anticipated to crush Hektor. Zeus declares,I have gauged Achilles life alongside Hektors, and lamentably Hektors passing is heavier, it is only the method of things.(236) .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d , .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d .postImageUrl , .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d .focused content region { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d , .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d:hover , .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d:visited , .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d:active { border:0!important; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; mistiness: 1; change: murkiness 250ms; webkit-change: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d:active , .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d:hover { darkness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-change: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relative; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content improvement: underline; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: intense; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content design: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .uc6bfc5d1 2630a4776605d8112604774d .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .uc6bfc5d12630a4776605d8112604774d:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Popular decisions for covered convey EssayHomers account uncovered much from history, religion and folklore in one, which is associated with the epic. The history parcel is the fight among Greece and Troy over Helan. Religion has to do with all the supplicating and consistent environmental factors by divine beings and the workers of divine beings. The folklore part would for the most part incorporate the divine beings and how they became. Ordinarily Homer alludes to Zeus as the child of Kronos, uncovering the folklore of Zeuss triumph over his dad to become ruler of the divine beings before all else. Heavenly components are critical to a decent epic. There are numerous recallings of extraordinary creatures and divine beings that appear to have had a section in the story. One such model was the waterway alongside Troy which struck out against Achilles. It apparently took on a representation and lashed out against men battling in the field. Some other time one such god set a blast to the land so wild that the water in the waterway bubbled. Homer clarifies, And Hephaistos transformed his fire in its sparkling into the waterway., Homer proceeds, The stream stood up with voice, bursting with fire, and his exquisite waters were fuming as its quality was consuming with extreme heat. One can see that a stream with voice, and a divine being with fire are unnatural, even heavenly. Just such an epic could contain such characteristics, and the epic hence alludes to the depiction of the Greeks in the story. The strict convictions of the Greeks affected the things they did and said in the Iliad. The greater part of the influence of the Greeks originated from the divine beings themselves. At whatever point a divine being told a Danaan(Greek) to accomplish something they complied. For example, Achilles had hold over Hektors body and was not going to surrender it. Anyway Zeus, whom being a divine being, sends him a message to give it way. Achilles reaction to this was, So be it. He can bring the payment and remove the body, if the Olympian himself(Zeus) so offers it.(480) Therefore, Achilles the delegate of the Greeks, up holds reality that religion convinces him and his kin. Another method of control was that of words by there divine beings. At once, when they were getting ready to head out, a monstrous whirlwind rose and shielded them from taking off. The god Apollo was irate and said to the Achanians(Greek), You have maddened the divine beings, with your negligence. Penance your little g irl Agamemnon, with the goal that we might be pacified. Homer proceeds with, So forward Agamemnon did this thing with scurry despite the fact that he adored his little girl, realizing any Achanian would do so.(71) An extra route was through petition or signs that were not all that barefaced, just like a divine being letting them know straightforwardly to accomplish something. One such sign was portrayed by Homer, Over the fight emerged a hawk, and in its hooks got a handle on a red secured snake. Similar to the falcon to take the snake to its home, in that its posterity could take care of. Be that as it may, the snake turned and lashed at the falcons paws, so forward the winged creature dropped the snake and no longer had it to reclaim to its home. he goes on, The Trojans were alarmed to see this, as they took it to be a sign from the gods(119) The idea of something as strict as a sign made the Greeks look for a mediator, with the goal that they could perceive what the divine beings needed from them, or where foretelling. Every now and then they would implore their divine beings in order to get what they needed and on the off chance that they didnt get a reaction they would, at that point real ize that something was wrong. The Greeks trusted in specific rules of their divine beings, and rules that applied to, and alongside influences from them. The Danaans accepted that any immortal(god) is more force than the most grounded and boldest of men. They likewise accepted that battling w

Self in the Study of Sociology
From a classical sociological perspective, the self is a relatively stable set of perceptions of who we are in relation to ourselves, others, and to social systems. The self is socially constructed in the sense that it is shaped through interaction with other people. As with socialization in general, the individual is not a passive participant in this process and have a powerful influence over how this process and its consequences develop.

Engineering Ethics. Whatââ¬â¢S Morally Acceptable Depends On
Engineering Ethics Whatââ¬â¢s morally acceptable depends on where in the world one lives. Accepting a position can be very immoral. Balancing the general needs of an individual with the needs of the society at large that will provide the most benefit to the most people is very important as depicted clearly in the moral theories (Harris, Pritchard, Rabins, James Englehardt, 2013). As it is said that humanity have a right to life, liberty and prosperity itââ¬â¢s very important for one to be very honest to respect individuals and protect the rights of others and making sure that in any way they do not make the to suffer with the choices we take. His decision on taking the job or not, holds on the wellbeing of his beliefs as well as the good of the society at large (Schlossberger, 2016). It is therefore of great benefit for him to go for the job instead. Geraldââ¬â¢s decision of taking the job will save the familyââ¬â¢s survival of the farm and instead place him at a wider knowledge of learning on the measures that the will help the society as they carry out their faming activities. As advised by one of the friends I consider him going for the job since if he misses this opportunity and another person instead is given a chance who has the idea of organic farming in mind will create more harm to the whole society. Gerald should therefore go the job since with him having this job will be for the good of his family as well as the society at large. It is very clear that him having the job the family will therefore have a great deal in the familyââ¬â¢s farm survival from the great loss due to the fatherââ¬â¢s treatment. Parent Report in Identifying Autism in Infants
Questions: Assessment, diagnostic testing, and management of neurological conditions in a pediatric patient. Differential diagnoses for presentation of symptoms involving the nervous system in pediatric patients. Assessment and evaluation of cognitive perceptual problems in pediatric patients. Answers: What do you believe is your best course of action for this appointment? From different medical background and research it can be said that the symptoms of Chloe is suffering from such as poor neck control and some staring episodes which can be recognized as early symptoms of autism. Based on this particular assumption it is quite important that necessary tests are carried out to be sure that the patient is actually suffering from autism. Diagnostic assessments should be carried out at first along with proper interventions required (Wolf et al. 2012). What specific assessment tools can you use to guide you in your evaluation? As from the case study, it can be said that there is urgent need of review of the patient and use of assessment tool which can be recommended with respect to this particular case. These tools include, Developmental and behavioral Screening tool Autism screening tool High functioning autism screening tools or asperger syndrome As the patient Chloe is just six months old, the developmental and screening tool is said to be the best assessment tool which can be implemented. In this tool the behavior of the child is noted and broadly studied to determine whether the baby is suffering from autism or not (Peterson, 2013). Autism screening tool can also be implemented. In this tool the spectrum of autism can be determined which help to specify the disorder particularly. In general cases, autism tools are followed by the developmental tools for the assessment procedure What would you expect a normal six-month-old to be doing? At the age of six months a normal baby can even sit up with the help of little support. The first attempts of talking through the babbling sounds can be observed in case of normal six months old baby (Jones Lauyer, 2015). Other significant aspects which should be highlighted is that at this age, babies can roll over in order to become motile by themselves and try to stand or cruising. How long do you have before Chloe should "catch up" developmentally? As of now, it is not clear the Chloe is suffering from autism. But if the assessment and diagnostic tests indicate the early signs of autism, there is no need to worry. It is medically seen that in such cases babies can catch up within a short period of time such as 24 months . (Rogers et al. 2014) Given Chloe's history, do you think she will? Why or why not? As the baby is just six months old and there are mild symptoms it can be concluded that it might be the early stages of autism. Though proper diagnostic or assessment results are needed to be sure it can also mentioned that if proper medical interventions are taken care with, then Chloe can easily catch up within the time span of twenty for months. A Short History Of Anti-Semitism In Germany Essays - Racism
A Short History of Anti-Semitism in Germany A Short History of Anti-Semitism in Germany The Second World War has left an unmistakable impression on the whole of Europe that will never be forgotten. Whether visible to the naked eye, or hidden in the consciousness of its people, the war has scarred Europe indelibly. Historically, the foremost recognizable perpetration against Europeans was Adolf Hitler's "Final Solution to the Jewish question". This sophisticated operation of systematic mass execution was calculated, organized, and carried out with such horrifying efficiency that only a madman could have been responsible for such an act, and Hitler was indeed mad. However, Anti-Semitism had been long a part of German history, and this religious intolerance had its roots firmly planted long before the rise of the Third Reich. Although the sheer magnitude of the loss of life during the holocaust is simply impossible to grasp, these horrors were the culmination of generations of anti-Semitism, brought to the boiling point by the decision of one power-crazed man. Dating back several centuries, anti-Semitism was prevalent throughout Germany barring rare instances where communities were tolerant religiously or socially of Jewish inhabitants. However, the belief that Jews were selfish, manipulative, ignorant heretics bound only for hell was still a popular one, even in communities such as these. The Catholic Church only enforced these views, and German Jews had difficulties seeking equality. "To Christians, the Jews were an obdurate people who had refused to recognize Jesus as the promised Messiah, and who not only still persisted in that error but were burdened with the guilt of deicide..." (Craig, 127) By the arrival of the reformation, anti-Semitism was commonplace among Germans and even justified by the Catholic Church. Jews during this era perhaps saw the coming of a new idealism with Martin Luther, or at least believed that mass split from the Catholic Church would at least increase tolerance to their people. However this was only a myth, for Luther saw the reformation to be a perfect opportunity for German Jews to renounce their religion and join the newly sprung Christian assemblage. Luther's plan didn't quite come to fruition as Jews found this to be just another attempt to destroy their religious autonomy under the facade of a new and better idealism. Luther's ignorance and self-righteous fanaticism was soon revealed, as he would eventually write "..We know about their lying and blasphemy and cursing, we cannot tolerate them"(Craig, 128) Therefore, The Reformation did nothing for the Jews except create another organized faction that officially detested them. These hatreds became the demonic roots imbedded in Germany, and were inescapably destined to touch even the most divine of the country's richly gifted artists. Centuries later, one of Germany's most respected and admired composers would emerge from the same soil-Richard Wagner. The composer openly voiced his dislike of the Jewish people, and according to Gordon Craig, " (Wagner) prided himself on his services to the anti-Semitic cause"(139). Even Hermann Levi, a Jewish conductor who after a performance of "Parsifal", was apparently presented by Wagner with the notion that he take a baptismal. By the 20th century, anti-Semitism was sprouting in Germany in a much more violent fashion, as right wing popularity would reach a fevered pitch. Jewish scientist, philosopher, politician and businessman Walther Rathenau served Germany in World War I as a supplier and administrator of raw war materials. After the war, Rathenau sought out to change some of stipulations of the Versailles Treaty. His goal was to gain the help of western powers in hopes of forming a stronger, more unified Germany. His savvy as a political mind soon gained him a job as Germany's Foreign Minister. Rathenau's unpopularity among German patriots followed him throughout his political Career, and this appointment would soon have drastic consequences. After serving only four months as Germany's Foreign Minister, Walter Rathenau was assassinated. This event was a prelude to the politically radical events to come, and also made evident that being Jewish in Germany was "more than a handicap or social embarrassment; it was a danger and, not impossibly, a sentence to death"(Craig 143). Centuries of anti-Semitic sentiment and action were propagated in the land that is now Germany. However, the actions of history's most recognizable demon would result in the extermination of millions of lives. These people were not war criminals, spies, military prisoners, or resistance fighters; they were simply people who had been struggling for generations to acquire religious freedom and autonomy. The 20th century's most heinous offense would be perpetrated against a people who, like Walther Rathenau, were murdered because they were guilty of being Jewish. Source: "The Germans" by Gordon C. Electronic Methods of Communication Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Electronic Methods of Communication - Essay Example By thoroughly discussing these four questions, we can come to a more critical and intellectual viewpoint on this subject matter. The aim of this paper is to thoroughly discuss all of this, as well as any key elements which are in relation to this issue. This is what will be dissertated in the following. A virtual office is a location which allows many people doing business to share an office address and business machines, and is a facility which often includes such things as receptionists, mail support, telephone banks, fax machines, copiers, computers, and sometimes even call answering services. With the technology currently available, business can be conducted easily from basically anywhere. The virtual office is considered as being easily one of the most important applications of the Internet, although its recognition is surely lacking. The Internet is easily the most popular communication tool which is completely changing the entire concept of what it means to be an agency. "The key to making an office virtual is enabling everyone in the agency to be able to work together as smoothly as they would if they were all physically in the same place. The Internet is beginning to make this type of integration possible because it allows rapid, low-cost communication between individual u sers and businesses." (Anderson, 2000). The virtual office is certainly a thing of popularity and efficiency; however, not everyone is a candidate for working in a virtual environment. This type of setting requires a special type of person in order to function properly; the person has to be able to work from home, and a special kind of manager is also required to effectively manage virtual employees. Largely as a result of the falling price of telecommunications and the increased sophistication of such things as relevant technology, all businesses, regardless of size, are suddenly able to take advantage of global efficiencies that were once available only to large corporations and multi-nationals. "There are a number of implications of decentralization. The integrity of corporate data can be compromised in the absence of strong data management and storage policies. The inevitable proliferation of duplicated data sent over public networks to individuals or offices in remote locations also presents significant security risks. The management of outsourced services (with well defined service level agreements) requires a different approach to those supplied from in-house, and is likely to be even more challenging when services are undertaken in a different country. Differences in culture, time zone, standards, legislation and language are the obvious ones. Deficiencies in any of these areas can lead to reputation risks as well as increasing the costs of compliance." (Evans, 2006). Is Personal Contact Even Necessary at This Point In regards to technologically speaking, it appears rather obvious that personal contact is in fact unnecessarily in most cases. However, a matter of a related issue is that of is

Model for the Up-gradation of the E-mail System Essay
Model for the Up-gradation of the E-mail System - Essay Example You would agree that a large project management team definitely requires managerial capabilities. The model again fails to address soft skills which again is a necessity for any management function. There are other project management bodies like the PMI, each with their own body of knowledge. Currently there is no shared version of bodies of knowledge among them and there could exist conflicts among these models. "The intent in making these points is not to argue that one BoK is "better" than another - hopefully the different models will slowly converge - but that as it stands the PMI model is unnecessarily, and even dangerously, delimiting the scope of the discipline." (Morris, P.12). These are three major shortcomings attributed to the PMBOK model. As you may be aware, the model was introduced in 1987 and due to its inadequacy, again modified in 1988 under the guidance of Professor Alan Stretton. Even this model has not been found to be satisfactory be the Project Management Instit ute. Newer and more efficient models have been developed in the last decade and two of them are discussed here. This model was developed by Kevin Forsberg, Hal Mooz, and Howard Cotterman in the late 1990's. This model was developed in consultation with hundreds of project managers and consultants. The advantage of this project is that concepts of management are also integrated into the model, something which was lacking in the PMBOK model. A graphical representation of the model is given here. (Project management models in the new century). It can be seen that almost all aspects that go into a project is represented here. It also shows that executive support is essential by showing this aspect as the platform on which the whole project is resting. The model is shown as a wheel with and axle. Four essential elements are incorporated into the model. "These four elements are: a common vocabulary, teamwork, the sequential project life cycle, and management elements." (Project management models in the new century). The wheel has the following elements namely, Project Requirements, Organizing Options, Project Team, Project Planning, Opportunity and Risk, Project Control, Project Visibility, Project Status, and Corrective Action. Leadership is given an important role and is shown as the rim of the wheel. In other words, it is the leadership rim that holds the project together. The concept here is that, as the wheel rotates, it moves forward on the axle. The axle contains the following elements namely, User, Concept, System, Plan, Sourcing, Implementation, Deployment, Operations, and Deactivation. This is the actual process by which a project will move forward. So as the project wheel turns (begins) it moves along the process until it is completed (deactivation). Three more essential elements are shown in the axle namely Technical, Business, and Budget aspects of the project. Another important feature of this model is that the axle and the wheel rest on two pillars teamwork and common vocabulary. As mentioned earlier the whole structure rests on the platform of executive support. Almost all respects of a project is shown here in simple and lucid manner. Most importantly this model

Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109) :: essays research papers
Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109) Table of Contents (Clicking on the links below will take you to that part of this article) * Life * Philosophical Writings * Theology Life The father of medieval scholasticism and one of the most eminent of English prelates was born at Aost Piedmont in 1033. Anselm died at Canterbury, England on April 21, 1109. While a boy he wished to be a monk, but his father forbade it. When he was about twenty-three Anselm left home to live in Burgundy and France. After three years he went to Bec in Normandy where his celebrated countryman, Lanfranc, was prior. Here he became a monk (1060). He succeeded Lanfranc as prior in 1063, and became abbot in 1078. The abbey had possessions in England, which called Anselm frequently to that country. He was the general choice for archbishop of Canterbury when Lanfranc died (1089). However, the king, William Rufus, preferred to keep the office vacant, and apply its revenues to his own use. In 1093 William fell ill and, literally forced Anselm to receive an appointment at his hands. He was consecrated December 4 of that year. The next four years witnessed a continual struggle between king and ar chbishop over money matters, rights, and privileges. Anselm wished to carry his case to Rome, and in 1097, with much difficulty, obtained permission from the king to go. At Rome he was honored and flattered, but he obtained little practical help in his struggle with the king. He returned to England as soon is he heard of the death of William in 1100. But a difficulty arose over lay investiture and homage from clerics for their benefices. Thought a mild and meek man, Anselm had adopted the Gregorian views of the relation between Church and State, and adhered to them with the steadiness of conscientious conviction. The king, though inclined to be conciliatory, was equally firm from motives of self-interest. He had a high regard for Anselm, always treated him with much consideration, and personal relations between them were generally friendly. Nevertheless there was much vexatious disputing, several fruitless embassies were sent to Rome, and Anselm himself went thither in 1103, remaini ng abroad till 1106. His quarrel with the king was settled by compromise in 1107 and the brief remaining period of his life was peaceful. He was canonized in 1494. Back to Table of Contents Philosophical Writings As a metaphysician Anselm was a realist, and one of his earliest works, De fide Trinitatis, was an attack on the doctrine of the Trinity as expounded by the nominalist Roscelin.

AP Language Adversity Essay Essay
Adversity causes people to act differently. Some may choose to concede and run away from their problems. Others may try to fight and overcome the obstacle in front of them. According to the poet Horace, adversity will cause a person to reveal their true colours. However, there are also cases where adversity will impede oneââ¬â¢s actions. I believe that adversity can cause one to rise to the occasion, but also can lead to oneââ¬â¢s downfall. We can look at famous handicapped individuals and the struggle they got through to reach success. Terry Fox is an example of a person who faced adversity and achieved something amazing. Terry Fox was diagnosed with bone cancer and eventually had his leg amputated and replaced by a prosthetic leg. By refusing to give in to his cancer, Terry Fox was able to raise millions of dollars to support cancer research and prevent cancer cases like his own. Another prime example is Helen Keller. Helen Keller was blind and deaf, so it would seem like her life was a mess. However, Helen Keller didnââ¬â¢t want to give up, and she overcame many obstacles, and became the first blind and deaf person to obtain a bachelors of arts degree. Without the illnesses that Terry Fox and Helen Keller contracted, they wouldnââ¬â¢t have had an incentive to do what they did, thus they wouldnââ¬â¢t be able to reach such heights. While adversity can indeed help people discover themselves, there are times when adversity wonââ¬â¢t. During the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989, the protestors had to face a huge obstacle: the Chinese government. The protests were led by students and were increasingly popular for a while before 1989. To stop the protests, the Chinese government decided to use force. They had hundreds of thousands of troops and a number of tanks across areas of Beijing, arresting protestors and in some cases, protestors were killed in the process, however the Chinese government claims there were no deaths. The ââ¬Å"failedâ⬠protests and ââ¬Å"massacreâ⬠of Tiananmen Square, depict that in some cases, adversity can be a slippery slope to failure. After looking at both sides of the argument, the conclusion is that Horaceââ¬â¢s statement sometimes holds true. While it is true that adversity influence people to do great things, we can also see how adversity can inhibit oneââ¬â¢sà ability to create change. Thus, I believe that adversity can indeed reveal oneââ¬â¢s true abilities, but copious and extreme amounts of adversity can have the opposite effect and prevent the discovery of dormant abilities.

Biography of Dolley Madison, Bipartisan First Lady
Born Dolley Payne, Dolley Madison (May 20, 1768 ââ¬â July 12, 1849) was first lady of the United States as the wife of James Madison, the countryââ¬â¢s fourth president. Over the course of her tenure as first lady, she was instrumental in forging friendly and social relationships between members of different political parties. Fast Facts: Dolley Madison Full Name:à Dolley Payne Todd MadisonOccupation: First lady of the United StatesBorn: May 20, 1768 in New Garden, North CarolinaDied: July 12, 1849 in Washington, D.C.Known For: As first lady, Dolley Madison influenced bipartisan efforts and was known for her grace and charm as a hostess.Spouses: John Todd (m. 1790-1793), James Madison (m. 1794-1836)Children: John Payne Todd (1792-1852), William Temple Todd (1793-1793) Quaker Childhood Dolley was the first daughter of Mary Coles Payne and John Payne Jr., Virginian transplants to North Carolina. Her mother was a lifelong Quaker, and her father joined the faith upon marrying Mary in 1761. In 1769, the Paynes returned to Virginia, where they raised their children on the family plantation. As a child, Dolley was very close to her motherââ¬â¢s family. The Paynes had four daughters (including Dolley) and four sons. As Quakers, the family was somewhat anti-slavery, and in 1783, they emancipated all their slaves. That same year, when Dolley was fifteen, the family moved again, this time to Philadelphia, where John Payne started a business as a starch merchant. Unfortunately, his business failed by 1791, resulting in his expulsion from the Quaker community. He died in 1792. First Marriage In 1790, when she was 22 years old, Dolley married John Todd, a Quaker lawyer whom she met in Philadelphia. They soon had two sons: John Payne Todd (named for Dolleyââ¬â¢s father) and William Temple Todd (born in 1793). Her sister, Anna Payne, also moved in to help with the children.à Gilbert Stuart (American, 1755-1828). Dolley Dandridge Payne Todd Madison, 1804. Oil on canvas. White House Historical Association (White House Collection) Tragedy struck in 1793, when a yellow fever epidemic tore through Philadelphia, killing more than five thousand people over the course of four months. Dolley lost her husband, her son William, and her in-laws to the epidemic. In the aftermath, she was stuck dealing not only with her grief and raising her surviving son, but with the legal limitations placed on women inheriting. Because her brother-in-law was the executor of her husbandââ¬â¢s will, he was able to withhold her inheritance from her until forced to retract after a lawsuit. At the time, laws around womenââ¬â¢s financial rights left many women in positions like Dolleyââ¬â¢s. Because women were severely limited in their ability to earn money or own any property, they were almost entirely financially dependent on male relatives, under a system known as covertureââ¬âthe doctrine that essentially subsumed all of a womanââ¬â¢s rights into her husbandââ¬â¢s upon marriage. Mrs. Madison Dolley was a young widow, only 25 years old, and was considered a very beautiful woman. Living in Philadelphia, the temporary capital of the new United States, resulted in Dolley encountering many of the elite figures of the time. Dolley was staying at a boarding house, where the lawyer Aaron Burr was also living. Burr had attended college with James Madison, who was then representing Virginia as a congressman in the House of Representatives. Reportedly, it was Burrââ¬â¢s idea to introduce his old friend and his neighbor. In early 1794, Burr introduced the two, and they apparently hit it off quickly. Although Dolley would have been aware of the necessity of remarriage in order to support herself and her son, she and Madison did apparently care deeply for each otherââ¬âdespite an age gap of seventeen years. They married that September, resulting in Dolleyââ¬â¢s expulsion from the Quaker community for marrying outside her faith; she adopted Jamesââ¬â¢ Episcopal faith instead. Drawings of the coin honoring Dolley Madison from the U.S. Mints First Spouse Gold Coin Program are displayed in the East Room of the White House November 19, 2007 in Washington, DC. Chip Somodevilla / Getty Images Madison served eight years in the House of Representatives before retiring from politics in 1797. Their family returned to Virginia, where Dolley helped her husband expand their house on his estate of Montpelier. However, the retirement didnââ¬â¢t last long. In 1800, Thomas Jefferson won the presidency, and he asked Madison to take the post of Secretary of State. Madison accepted, and he and his family moved to Washington. Because Jefferson was a widower, Dolley stepped in to fulfill some of the traditional functions of the first lady, as set out by Martha Washington. She assisted in furnishing the White House and served as hostess on several state occasions, while also befriending the wives of many international diplomats. During this era, she gained a reputation for her charm and graciousness. First Lady and Later Legacy Madison was the nominee of the Democratic-Republican Party in the 1808 election and won the presidency; he was reelected four years later as well. She functioned as the official hostess of the administration, smoothing over political tensions with her grace and social finesse. It was her social events, in fact, that helped bring together politicians of different parties. During her tenure as first lady, Dolley also participated in the advances of the ages: she was the only first lady given an honorary seat on the floor of Congress, and the first American to receive and reply to a telegraph message. Illustration shows American First Lady Dolley Madison (1768 - 1849) as she holds aloft the Declaration of Independence, as British soldiers approach the White House, Washington DC, August 24, 1814. Though Madison did save a number of documents from the White House, Gilbert Stuarts portrait of George Washington was the most historically important item she saved, and this image, which even includes a cracked display case in the background, is a fictional representation of the events. Stock Montage / Getty Images Dolleyââ¬â¢s most famous action came in 1814ââ¬âand, technically, it wasnââ¬â¢t even hers. During the War of 1812, British forces attacked Washington and burned much of the relatively new city. As the presidential staff hurried to depart, Dolley ordered that a painting of George Washington, a copy of the famous Lansdowne portrait, be taken down and saved. In popular culture, Dolley was depicted as the one who saved the painting, in reality, it was the houseââ¬â¢s servants (or, more accurately, slaves) who did the saving. After Madisonââ¬â¢s tenure as president ended in 1817, the family returned to Montpelier, where they enjoyed retirement. James Madison died on June 28, 1836, and Dolley spent the next year organizing and copying his papers for their records and for publication. She then returned to Washington, along with her sister Anna, in 1837. The Montpelier plantation was left in the care of her son, Payne Todd, but he suffered from alcoholism and other illnesses and was unable to carry out his duties properly. Instead, Dolley sold off Montpelier and the plantationââ¬â¢s remaining slaves to pay off her familyââ¬â¢s debts. In her later years, Dolley Madison remained a fixture in Washington, as one of the last remaining members of the prominent Revolutionary War families. Over the years, her finances were intermittently shaky, and she sold the rest of her husbandââ¬â¢s papers to help support herself. She passed away at the age of 81 at her home in Washington in 1849, and was first buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, then reinterred alongside James at Montpelier. Along with other early presidential wives such as Martha Washington and Abigail Adams, Dolley Madison defined the role of the first lady and used social gatherings to work towards bipartisan cooperation in a chaotic era. Shifts in supply and demand in the simulation were due to several factors. Changes in the direction of GoodLife Management and the population changes within Atlantis and outlying areas had an effect on supply and demand in the simulation. Changes in the preference of the tenants caused the demand for the apartments to decrease. GoodLife Management began converting the rental apartments into condominiums that were for sell, causing a decrease in the supply at the same time as the decrease in demand. Gilgamesh is a Failure in the Epic of Gilgamesh Essay
After reading The Epic of Gilgamesh, I have come to realize that Gilgamesh is not a hero, but a failure. His journey does not follow the traditional circular heroââ¬â¢s journey and he does not posses the traits that an admirable hero should have. The first part of the heroââ¬â¢s journey is the call to adventure. This is the voyage that the hero is asked to go on in order to accomplish greater good for human kind. This is the heroââ¬â¢s chance to help his or her community, family or friends by embarking on a long journey and challenging his, or herself. Gilgamesh does not go on a journey to help others, he goes to make himself look better. ââ¬Å" I have not established my name stamped on bricks as my destiny decreed, therefore I will go to the countryâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Gilgamesh just kills Humbaba to look stronger even though Humbaba is not doing any harm to anyone. Gilgamesh also kills the bull that belonged to Istar. When he kills the bull, he disrespecting the Gods by destroying their property. Another reason why these trials to not make Gilgamesh a hero is because they are not difficult for him. He is hardly struggling to complete them and being constantly challenged is part of beings a hero. Gilgameshââ¬â¢s mentor is Inkidu. The hero is supposed to respect the mentor while Gilgamesh indirectly kills his. When Inkidu and Gilgamesh kill Humbaba the Gods kill Inkidu as a punishment. Not only did Gilgamesh hurt the Gods, but he also let his mentor die for his mistakes. After undergoing the trails, the hero moves on to the abyss. The abyss is the darkest point for a hero in the heroââ¬â¢s journey. For Gilgamesh the abyss is when Inkidu dies. Gilgamesh is completely at fault for his own abyss. He is upset when he is actually the one who caused the problem. After the abyss, the hero is raised back up again and moves on to the return. In the return, the hero is praised for the good that he, or she, has brought to the people. Gilgamesh is only praised because he is a king and the people have to respect the king. Global Encyclopedia Public Administration -Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Global Encyclopedia Public Administration? Answer: Introducation In accordance with regulations of IFRS 13 for fair value measurement, fair value is necessarily a market founded system of enumeration and not an entity specific aspect of measurement. Basically, market transactions otherwise market information might possibly be made available or not made available for specific assets and liabilities. Nonetheless, the primary objective of fair value enumeration in each of the two cases can be said to be identical for approximating the price at which particular orderly business transaction to sell or transfer the firms assets occurs between market participants right at the enumeration date (Williams 2014). In essence, this specific regulation of IFRS is pertinent when another IFRS permits fair value measurement otherwise disclosures as regards those measurements (reference to paragraph 5 under IFRS 13). As per paragraph 11, a fair value system of measurement is necessarily for a particular asset otherwise a liability. Therefore, at the time of enumera ting fair value a particular entity has the need to take into consideration various characteristics of asset/liability if market participants would take into account those characteristics during pricing of firms assets/liabilities at the enumeration date. Nevertheless, this type of features comprise of conditions along with locations of the asset together with controls if any on mainly the sell or usage of the firms asset (Warren and Jones 2018). Particularly, asset/liabilities calculated at fair value can be a separate asset or else liability or a group of asset/liability. In essence, historical cost can be identified as the original cost of a particular asset as recorded in the accounting records of a firm. Most of the business transactions recorded in the accounting documents of a business concern are stated at the historical costs (Henderson et al. 2015). In actual fact, a historical cost can be verified by way of accessing the source purchase otherwise trade documents. Nonetheless, historical cost necessarily has the disadvantage of not essentially replicating the real fair value that is expected to diverge from the cost of purchase over a specific time period. According to the accounting standard, historical costs have the necessity for specific adjustments with time. Armstrong et al. (2015) suggests that historical cost differs from several other costs that are necessarily assigned to a particular asset, such as replacement cost else wise cost of inflation adjustment. Nevertheless, historical costs can still be considered as a central notion of r ecording assets, although fair value is substituting the same for particular types of assets. The ongoing substitution of the historical cost by fair value system of dimension is based on the argument that historical cost represents a conventional image of a firm. Nevertheless, the choice between utilizing fair value as well as historical cost scheme of accounting can be regarded to be widely argued matter of concern. Nonetheless, the argument essentially dates back to the year 1990s. Most of the accounting standards, IFRS presents a choice between fair value and historical cost measurement system for different non-financial assets. Furthermore, IFRS also has the requirement of an ex-ante commitment that indicates commitment to one of two stratagems of accounting (Francis et al. 2015). Therefore, managers necessarily have a reason to market demands and commit to a particular accounting treatment that can aid in maximizing value of the corporation. In addition to this, fair value accounting system for diverse non-financial assets have the advantage of augmented value relevance along with information content, reduced information asymmetry and increased comparability. Reports recommend that utilization of fair value instead of historical cost is not essentially random and occurs when benefit overshadows the costs (Hermason et al. 2016). Analysis of benefits along with challenges of utilizing historical cost as well as fair value accounting for both PEE and intangibles According to the regulations stipulated under AASB 116, fair value can be regarded as an amount for which specific asset could essentially be exchanged primarily well-informed and enthusiastic parties especially in arms length business deals. According to paragraph 15 of the directive AASB 116, a specific item of the plant, property as well as equipment that effectively qualifies for recognition and can be regarded as a particular asset can be calculated at cost (Oulasvirta 2016). As rightly indicated by Laing and Perrin (2014) the directives stipulated under AASB 138 lays down accounting treatment for diverse intangible assets that are essentially not in another accounting regulation. Essentially, this specific standard that is applicable to business entities that need to arrange and present financial declarations according to the regulations of Part 2M.3 of Corporations Act and that too necessarily is a business concern. According to the regulations of the standard AASB 138, cost is basically the carrying amount of specifically cash along with cash equivalents that is disbursed otherwise fair value of diverse other considerations that are made available to acquire a specific asset during period of acquirement. Hu et al. (2015) mentioned that this standard when implemented, the complete amount is ascribed to the specific assets during the time when they are initially identified according to precise necessities of the other standards and treatment of accountin g. According to AASB 3, in specific case of a business combination an intangible asset gets acquired, then the cost of that specific intangible asset is presented at fair value at the acquirement date. Fundamentally, fair value of intangible asset might help in reflecting anticipations of market participants at the acquirement date as regards probability that the predictable economic advantages will flow to the business entity (Abbott and Tan?Kantor 2017). However, if a specific intangible that is necessarily acquired in a particular business combination can be separated otherwise it arises from agreements or legal rights, then in that case adequate information exists to calculate asset using fair value dimensions. Business concerns might possibly identify intangible assets along with grants at fair value according to AASB 120. Furthermore, according to the cost model that is described according to paragraph 74 of the regulation AASB 138, after process of initial recognition, a part icular intangible asset of a business entity shall essentially be undertaken at a certain revalued amount that is essentially the fair value registered at the date of revaluation after deduction of any consequent accumulated amortisation and subsequent impairment losses. As rightly indicated by Kaya (2014), fair value dimensions along with systems of accounting treatment for PPE can be regarded to be superior to mainly historical cot that is based on characteristics of predictive value, acquired feedback, representational faithfulness, neutrality as well as comparability and timeliness among many others. Basically, verifiability appears to the lone qualitative characteristic that supports the historical cost system over the fair value system. Edeigba and Amenkhienan (2017) suggest that there are several advantages of utilizing historical cost for valuation of plant, property as well as equipment (PPE) on the balance sheet. Therefore, it is such that historical cost can easily be verified. Usually, the cost that a firm incurs during period of purchase is recorded with different types of contract, expends, transfer taxation-law and many others. In essence, the historical cost of PPE is also used for the purpose of determination of depreciation expenditure that is registered as a deduction from particular historical cost of the firms assets pronounced on the balance sheet. Nevertheless, for impairment, there are specific assets of firms that might possibly be registered at a certain amount that is lower than the one calculated on historical cost (Wingard et al. 2016). In point of fact, the utilization of the historical cost can also bear out to be a disadvantage for the financial information users of various financial declar ations that has the requirement to comprehend the current value. Again, intangible assets might probably has to be valued for various reasons. However, it can be witnessed that fair value dimensions in accounting has higher possibility of getting selected for mainly PPE than firms other non-financial assets since property makers are usually more liquid. There is more likelihood of adopting fair value when it essentially smoothes the progress of enumeration of performance. In this particular case, value transformation of investment property is somewhat informative of diverse operating performance specifically when capital gains become a significant part of the entire business model (Palea 2014). Nonetheless, fair value accounting treatment also adversely exerts impact on various dimensions of performance mainly if administration of the corporation intends to hold different unproductive assets. Detection of valuation exercise for specific non-financial assets In this current study, Woolworths Limited is selected as a listed firm under the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), Tesco Plc is chosen as a listed firm under the London Stock Exchange and Alcoa Corporation is selected as listed corporation under the New York Stock Exchange. Woolworths Limited: Analysis of Woolworths Limiteds consolidated financial assertions reveal the fact that the entire group presents a general purpose financial statement. This deceleration is essentially prepared as well as presented in accordance with the directives of the Corporations Act of the year 2001, regulations of the Australian Accounting Standard and directives of the Interpretations along with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) (Wow2016ar.qreports.com.au 2018). Analytical evaluation of the financial pronouncement of the firm replicates the fact that plant, property as well as equipment (PPE) of the entire group is necessarily calculated at cost taking away accumulated depreciation otherwise amortisation along with accumulated losses from impairment. In particular, cost incurred for various self-constructed firms assets contains material cost, overhead proportions along with cost of direct labour. As such, the cost incurred for development properties inclu des borrowing, holding cost together with development until the asset becomes complete (Steenkamp and Steenkamp 2016). Essentially, the yearly financial declaration of the corporation also states that PPE are essentially assessed as per the stratagem of impairment of firms non-financial assets. In addition to this, estimation of economic lives also require correct judgement of the management and are assessed every year (Hu et al. 2015). Particularly, in Woolworths case, PPE impairment primarily relates to PPE, assets of the stores along with distribution centres associating to the Home Improvement Business (Wow2016ar.qreports.com.au 2018). In addition to this, according to the annual report of the firm for the financial year 2016, it can be hereby observed that intangible assets of the firm are calculated at cost deducting particular accumulated amortisation along with losses of impairment. However, at the time when intangible assets are gathered in a specific business combination, particular costs replicate the fair value especially at the date of acquirement. Furthermore, intangible assets of the corporation that has finite lives are essentially amortised with diverse finite lives that are necessarily amortised by way of straight line mechanism over estimated economic lives. Tesco Plc: Critical analysis of the annual declaration of the firm for the financial year 2016 replicates that the financial pronouncements of the corporation are both prepared as well as presented in conformation to the directives under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as has been assumed by the entire European Union (EU) (Tescoplc.com 2018). In essence, financial declarations are necessarily prepared as per the requirements of the Companies Act of the financial year 2006 regarding the financial reports of the entire group and in compliance with the article 4 stipulated under IAS Regulation. As such, analysis of the significant accounting policies of the business concern reflects the fact that the PPE is essentially carried and presented at cost less the particular amount of accumulated depreciation along with any detected impairment value. In itself, plant, property as well as equipment (PPE) is depreciated by utilizing the straight line mechanism to necessarily t he residual value over the approximated economic lives (Tescoplc.com 2018). Analysis of the financial reports of the firm for the FY 2016 also helps in understanding the fact that non-financial asset of the corporation including intangible assets along with PPE; the entire group assumes impairment testing in which there are specific gauges of impairment. However, in specific cases in which asset does not essentially generate cash flows are independent from other assets (Tran and Zhu 2017). Thereafter, the group estimates the overall recoverable amount of cash generating unit. Furthermore, annual financial report of the corporation also reads that intangible assets for example, software together with pharmacy licenses of the corporation are calculated at acquirement cost otherwise costs borne for asset development. Furthermore, expenditure for development on a particular project is essentially capitalized when specific criteria are met. In this case, the asset generated will possibly generate economic advantage in the future. Basically, intangible assets that the firm acquires in a particular business combination are identified at fair value at the date of acquisition (Williams 2014). Nevertheless, after the period of initial recognition, particular intangible assets that have finite economic lives are measured at cost deduction of the amortisation along with accumulated losses for impairment. In essence, they are essentially amortised on a straight line manner over the estimate economic life that rovers around 10% -20% of cost every year. For different ot her non-financial assets including firms intangible assets, the entire group assumes impairment testing especially in cases when there are different gauges of impairment. Alcoa Corporation: Analysis of the annual report of the firm Alcoa Corporation for the financial year 2016 shows that the consolidated financial statements is essentially prepared in compliance to the accounting directives usually assumed in USA that is GAAP. In actual fact, this calls for the firms management to undertake particular judgement, approximations along with suppositions (Warren and Jones 2018). Nevertheless, this might possibly exert impact on the recorded amount of the corporations assets/liabilities together with diverse disclosures on particular contingent assets as well as liabilities at the pecuniary statement date. Particularly in Alcoa Corporation, PPE are documented at cost. In essence, depreciation is recorded using the straight line mechanism at specified rates based on estimated economic lives of firms assets. As such, for different Greenfield assets of the firm that refer to construction of diverse new assets on diverse undeveloped land, different production methods is used for recording the depreciation. Essentially, these assets need a considerable period (usually greater than one year) to augment the overall production potential (Henderson et al. 2015) In actual fact, plant, property as well as equipment (PPE) are assessed for impairment whenever there are specific incidents otherwise transformations in conditions. This necessarily replicates that the carrying amount of this category of assets/group of assets might possibly not be recoverable. Again, it can also be witnessed that asset recoverability can be determined by means of comparing estimated undiscounted flow of net cash operations related to carrying amounts of assets/ group of assets of the corporation (Armstrong 2015). Furthermore, impairment losses can necessarily be identified when firms assets/group of assets carrying amount go over undiscounted net cash flow. The amount of impairment loss has to be registered is calculated as excess of carrying value of the asset or else group of asset of the firm over its fair value. In this, fair value is determined by way of prominent information acquired from discounted cash flow model. In addition to this, determination of what consists of asset groups, the associated estimated undiscounted net cash flow, and the estimated useful lives of the assets requires substantial judgements (Investors.alcoa.com 2018). As per the annual report of the corporation Alcoa Corporation, it can be hereby mentioned that goodwill as well as other intangible assets is not inevitably amortised and instead it is examined yearly or more regularly for the purpose of impairment when impairment indicators exist or when management decides to sell or to exit from business (Francis et al. 2015). Essentially, policies of accounting that are stated in the financial assertions elucidates illustratively that a substantial amount of management judgement is involved in the determination process when a specific parameter of impairment is in place. Furthermore, this types of indicators and might possibly takes in deterioration in usual economic situations, unfavourable developments in equity and credit market, undesirable alterations in the market in which the business concern functions. Essentially, these indicators also contain augmentation in costs of input that essentially have unfavourable influence on earnings, downwar d trend of cash as well as cash flow of the company (Hermason et al. 2016). In essence, impairment tests of mainly goodwill in different previous years presented replicated that the corporations goodwill was not in fact impaired. Particularly, intangible assets that have finite economic lives are unavoidably amortised in a normal way using a straight line mechanism over a specific period of time (Investors.alcoa.com 2018). Assessment whether PPE and intangibles are consistent across three different corporations The calculation of PPE as well as intangible assets of the corporation is moderately consistent among the corporations Tesco Plc and the Australian firm Woolworths Limited, whilst it is somewhat different for Alcoa Corporation. For Tesco Plc, PPE of the firm is essentially carried out at cost less accumulated depreciation together with equipment of the corporation is essentially carried out at cost less accumulated depreciation along with any kind of recognized impairment value. In addition to this, in case of Woolworths Limited, PPE of the overall corporation is necessarily calculated at cost less accumulated depreciation otherwise amortisation along with accumulated losses of impairment. Nonetheless, for Alcoa Corporation, PPE are recorded at cost (Oulasvirta 2016). In essence, depreciation is recorded using straight line mechanism at specified rates based on the estimated useful lives of firms assets. However, in case of intangible assets of the firm Tesco Plc, it is calculated in itially the cost of acquirement otherwise costs that is borne for asset development. Furthermore, specified intangible asset that has finite economic lives are undertaken at cost deducting accrued amortisation along with accumulated losses of impairment. For Woolworths Limited, intangible assets are calculated at cost and deducting from it accumulated amortisation and losses for impairment. In addition to this, in case of enumeration of intangible assets of Alcoa Corporation, assets that have finite useful lines are essentially amortised using straight line methods. Viewpoints as regards free choice between historical and fair value system of accounting The present study aids in comprehending diverse benefits of IFRS that permits free choice between fair value and historical accounting mechanism. In essence, IFRS necessarily has an ex-ante commitment to one of the two accounting schemes. In particular, it is according to the managements concern to limit the overall scope for various actions in the future time period, for let us say, management of firms earnings. Therefore, managers have specific incentives to properly react to different market demand and commit to accounting treatment that subsequently can aid in optimization of the overall value of the corporation. Laing and Perrin (2014) suggests that fair value accounting for different non-financial assets of the corporation heads to augmented relevance value along with content regarding information, reduced comparability. Prior reports recommend that the choice to use and adopt the fair value is not undertaken arbitrarily and takes place when the acquired benefits surpass the sp ecified costs. Nonetheless, there are substantiations that help in replicating that net benefits that can be acquired from this fair value accounting treatment is necessarily limited in scope (Hu et al. 2015). Hence it can thus be inferred that the choice between two diverse systems need to be specified in the financial assertions of the corporation following the assumptions of directives of IFRS. Essentially, this has the need to be consistently applied moving forward. References Abbott, M. and Tan?Kantor, A., 2017.
